Mass Targets Expansion

Slovenian footwear retailer Mass is entering a new growth phase after private-equity firm Advance Capital Partners agreed to acquire a controlling stake, in a deal expected to accelerate regional expansion and strengthen one of the country’s most recognizable retail brands.

According to Build Press, Advance Capital Partners is set to purchase a 60% stake in Mass, with completion subject to regulatory approvals. The transaction is viewed as one of the larger specialized retail deals in the Adriatic region and signals rising investor interest in scalable consumer businesses from Slovenia. (buildpress.com.ro)

Founded in Ljubljana in 1990, Mass has grown into a regional retailer operating stores in Slovenia, Croatia and Austria, while also investing heavily in e-commerce. The company has built a strong position in footwear and fashion accessories through a mix of own-brand retail and franchise partnerships. (karanovicpartners.com)

Advance Capital Partners said the next phase will focus on aggressive expansion. Public statements from the firm outlined plans to open roughly 100 new stores over five years, expand into additional Central and Eastern European markets and potentially triple annual revenue toward €300 million. The strategy reflects a wider regional retail trend in which investors are backing omnichannel operators that combine physical stores with fast-growing online sales. Footwear remains attractive because repeat purchases, branded demand and cross-border scalability can generate strong returns when execution is disciplined.

Mass has already signaled ambitions beyond its current footprint. Company materials indicate future focus markets include the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Romania, where consumer spending and organized retail penetration continue to rise faster than in Western Europe. (acp.si)

A later announced transaction involving Austrian footwear group Leder & Schuh would significantly expand the combined network if completed, potentially creating one of the larger shoe retail groups in Central Europe. (acp.si)

For Slovenia, the deal highlights growing maturity in domestic private equity and the ability of local brands to attract institutional capital for international growth. For investors, it is another sign that consumer retail assets with digital potential remain valuable despite a slower European economy.
