Short description: UPS lifted its full-year revenue and earnings forecasts after third-quarter results exceeded expectations, as higher-margin shipments and network efficiency support its recovery ahead of the holiday delivery season.
◉ Higher revenue forecast — UPS now expects approximately $92.6 billion in 2026 revenue, up from its previous estimate of $91.2 billion.
◉ Earnings beat — Third-quarter revenue rose 6.7% to $22.9 billion, while adjusted earnings reached $1.69 per share.
◉ Profitability over volume — The company’s strategy of prioritising higher-margin shipments is beginning to support operating performance as it restructures its network.
A Stronger Outlook
United Parcel Service has raised its financial outlook for 2026, signalling greater confidence in its business momentum as the peak holiday shipping period approaches.
The company now expects full-year revenue of approximately $92.6 billion, compared with its previous forecast of $91.2 billion. Adjusted earnings are projected at $7.28 per share, while adjusted operating profit is expected to reach approximately $8.75 billion.
The revised outlook followed third-quarter revenue of $22.9 billion, an increase of 6.7% year over year. Adjusted earnings came in at $1.69 per share, ahead of market expectations.
UPS also raised its adjusted free-cash-flow target to approximately $6.1 billion, reflecting its focus on generating stronger financial returns from its delivery network.
The Shift Toward Better Margins
The improvement comes as UPS changes the composition of its business. Rather than prioritising parcel volume alone, the company has been reducing lower-margin shipments and focusing on services that generate greater revenue per package.
Its decision to reduce deliveries for Amazon has formed part of that strategy. While the shift puts pressure on some volume measures, management is seeking to improve profitability through pricing, operational efficiency and a more favourable shipment mix.
International shipments have also supported results. The international segment generated $5.0 billion in third-quarter revenue, up 7.1% from a year earlier, with revenue per piece increasing 15%.

Holiday Season in Focus
The fourth quarter is particularly important for parcel carriers, as online shopping and seasonal retail demand increase pressure on distribution centres, aircraft capacity and last-mile delivery networks.
UPS expects fourth-quarter revenue of approximately $25.7 billion and adjusted operating profit of around $3.3 billion. The company says its network is entering the holiday period with improved automation and efficiency.
However, the outlook is not without risks. Labour expenses, fuel prices, shifting trade flows and the cost of restructuring could affect the pace of margin improvement. Supply-chain demand can also vary across regions and customer segments.
Efficiency Over Expansion
UPS’s results highlight a broader shift in the logistics industry: scale remains important, but investors are increasingly focused on the quality of revenue and the ability to convert it into cash flow.
The company reported $1.7 billion in third-quarter operating profit, while adjusted operating profit reached $2.1 billion. Reported diluted earnings were $1.37 per share, compared with adjusted earnings of $1.69, reflecting transformation costs and a goodwill impairment charge.
The distinction matters because restructuring can improve future performance while weighing on current reported results.
UPS enters the final quarter of 2026 with a higher forecast and a clear operational priority: make its network more profitable without sacrificing service reliability during its busiest period. The holiday season will provide an important test of whether those improvements can be sustained.
