A New Expression of Excalibur

Roger Dubuis continues to develop one of its most recognisable watchmaking signatures with the Excalibur Biretrograde Calendar Cosmic Blue. Rather than relying solely on a new colour scheme, the model brings together the brand’s distinctive calendar display, architectural case design and high-end movement finishing.

Introduced as part of the brand’s 2026 watch releases, the Cosmic Blue edition uses a 40 mm stainless-steel case. Its proportions give the watch a sportier character than precious-metal alternatives, while the angular bezel and contrasting surface finishes preserve the bold identity of the Excalibur collection. Blue Dial, Layered Mechanics

The dial is built across seven levels, creating depth between the blue surfaces, silver-toned calendar scales and exposed mechanical components. The day and date are displayed through two retrograde indicators, while a small-seconds register sits at six o’clock.

The arrangement is central to the watch’s identity. Instead of presenting calendar information through conventional rotating discs, the hands travel along curved scales before returning to their starting points. The result is a display that makes the calendar mechanism part of the visual experience.

The stainless-steel bracelet reinforces the contemporary, integrated look. An additional blue rubber strap is also included, offering a more casual alternative to the metal bracelet.

The RD840 Calibre

Powering the watch is the automatic RD840 calibre, which combines timekeeping with the bi-retrograde calendar mechanism. The movement provides approximately 60 hours of power reserve and is certified by the Poinçon de Genève, a mark associated with stringent requirements for movement construction and finishing.

Roger Dubuis traces its bi-retrograde approach to a mechanism co-patented by its founder and watchmaker Jean-Marc Wiederrecht in 1989. The Cosmic Blue model continues that technical heritage in a contemporary steel watch, balancing a complex display with a more wearable case format. rogerdubuis.com

Price and Positioning

Watch Insider reported a price of £38,800 / US$43,900 for the Cosmic Blue edition in its October 23, 2026 coverage. Pricing can vary by market, taxes and availability, so the figure should be verified with an authorised retailer before publication. Watch Insider

The watch occupies a distinctive position in the luxury segment: a calendar complication with a strong visual identity, rather than a traditional dress watch. Its appeal rests on the combination of mechanical theatre, contemporary design and Geneva-certified finishing.
