Interactive Brokers Raises Dividend

Interactive Brokers Group increased its quarterly dividend by 71% after reporting higher third-quarter revenue and earnings, supported by rising interest income, customer growth and stronger overall trading activity.

The electronic brokerage firm reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $1.91 billion, up from $1.66 billion a year earlier. GAAP diluted earnings reached $0.69 per share, compared with $0.59 in the same period last year. Adjusted earnings were $0.67 per share.

Dividend Jumps 71%

The board raised the quarterly cash dividend from $0.0875 to $0.15 per share. The increased payment is scheduled for 14 December 2026 for shareholders on record as of 1 December.

The decision signals confidence in the company’s financial performance and its capacity to return capital to shareholders. However, a higher dividend alone does not guarantee future share-price gains, particularly if trading activity or interest-related income weakens.

Interest Income Drives Growth

Net interest income increased 19% year over year to $1.15 billion, supported primarily by higher average customer margin loans and customer credit balances. Commission revenue rose 12% to $602 million, while daily average revenue trades increased 18% to 4.27 million.

The customer base continued to expand. Total accounts climbed 35% to approximately 5.58 million, while customer equity rose 27% to $964.7 billion. Margin loans increased 36% to $105.2 billion, reflecting greater use of borrowed funds by clients.

Trading Volumes Diverge

The headline figures conceal a shift in customer activity. Futures trading volume increased 13%, but stock trading volume declined 24%, while options volume slipped 1%. This divergence suggests that growth in the business is not evenly distributed across asset classes.

Interactive Brokers also reported a pretax profit margin of 78%, slightly below the 79% recorded a year earlier. The margin remains high, but future performance will depend on customer growth, market activity, interest rates and the sustainability of interest income.

The results reinforce Interactive Brokers’ position as a major global electronic brokerage platform. The dividend increase is a positive signal for income-oriented shareholders, while the changing mix of trading activity remains an important indicator to watch in coming quarters.
